The California BBQ Association is a nonprofit organization that raises money for California children's charities through barbecue events such as contests and cooking classes. The CBBQA BBQ University, one of our community outreach programs, is dedicated to providing top tier BBQ classes for the beginner to the professional competitor.

The CBBQA BBQ University 101 class is an "Introduction to Authentic Barbecue" and caters to the backyard novice chef. In one day you'll learn everything from selecting perfect meat to preparing life altering side dishes. It doesn't matter what kind of cooker is rusting away in your backyard, you'll learn how to get the best out of it - grilling, smoking, rubs, sauces, marinades - recipes included!

Fortunately, the CBBQA Pitmasters won't just be talking, they'll be demonstrating appetizers like smoked wings and a special barbecue treat called ABTs, entrees such as chicken, ribs and Tri-Tip as well as classic sides like mac and cheese and BBQ beans. The food will be plentiful, so wear your eating pants! You definitely won't leave hungry. A take home class packet filled with course recipes and techniques will be provided.

We can't guarantee that the TV cooking channels will show up in your backyard this summer, but they already have for graduates of the CBBQA Backyard BBQ class - it's that good! Not only will you feel great about everything you experienced in the class, you'll be even more happy to know that the California BBQ Association is a non-profit organization and 100% of proceeds from this class will directly benefit children's charities in the state of California.

Check-in times are 7:30am to 9:00am. Enjoy coffee, tea, water and donuts and an informal opportunity to speak with our instructors about pits and BBQ philosophies. At 9:00am the class will begin lasting until approximately 4:30. Classes will be inside an air conditioned hall with some of the sessions outside when demonstrating cooking techniques. Our CBBQA instructors are veteran competition Pit masters and multiple Grand Champion winners.
