Lighting Start Nevada County Fire

Penn Valley today is full of smoke from a near by fire. I woke up today for my morning run and was consumed by the smell of burning brush. Over the weekend we had a freak weather front moved in loaded with dry lighting and loud thunder. My dog was running around the yard trying to get away from it. It dropped a little rain but created a few fires in the whole process.

According to the Nevada Union Newspaper the lighting started 2 fires in Nevada County and 23 other fires in the California. It’s been dry up here for the past few months and is going to make the fire tough to put out. As of 7:15 pm on Sunday the fire had burned over 450 acres and the CHP had to evacuate campers and hikers from the Bowman Lake area just to be on the safe side.

The smell of the smoke reminds me of being at a giant camp fire. I would guess people with asthma and other breathing issues are going to have a rough day. I have closed my windows and still have a hard time breathing. The best news is that no homes have been harmed. Fire officials say they don’t expect any homes to be burned from this fire. They also say that all the fires in the Nevada County area were started by the lighting over the weekend.

Our area wasn’t the hardest hit. There are fires near San Francisco, Mendocino County, and even Placer County has a few. It seems to live in the Golden State we have to deal with earth quakes and fires. Every year both of them keep spreading. I hope the hard working firefighters can put these fires out soon. I am starting to get a head ache from this smoke.

Remember to keep a clean area around your home to be safe and always keep your roof clean and clear. A fire is one of the worst things to happen to have family home. Be sure your fire insurance is up to date also.
