Labor Day 2010 Rib Cook Off

Jeremiah Johnson eating a Chicken Wing at the Best of the West Rib Cook Off?

It's a three day weekend for most of us and we get our families, friends and strangers together for a weekend barbecue. Some head to the desert for burning man. I missed the bus on burning man and never attending. Now being a little other and having a kid, I don't think I'll ever attend it. Probley for the best. Nothing good can come out of a bunch of people doing a ton of drugs to recaptor their youth or to define a new one.

I prefer to go up to Sparks, Nevada for the Nugget's Best of the West Rib Cook Off. Barbecue teams from aourn the country compet to be crownd the best of the west in ribs. Its the biggest event in the western part of the country. John Ascuaga's has built himself a big money maker no doudt. He controls the ribs being sold and eveyryone has to get their ribs from him. Last year they sold over hudrad thousand pounds of ribs. Not bad for being in a resetion. It was the record braker.

Bone Daddy's Grilling it up and with a few Gold Medals

My wife and I like to attend the Cook Off on Monday. Its a little more mellow and you get to see the winners get their checks. The Grand Prize is a title and around $7000. These guys spend that on the gas it takes to get to and from the event. Their money maker is selling the Ribs they have to buy from John  Ascuaga's Nugget. For around nine bucks you get three ribs and maybe a chicken wing thrown in there. You can sample ribs from a couple dozen pro BBQ cooks. We get into several line and buy our ribs. Then meet back up and share. It works out to be a good time. You can buy VIP tickets and sit in the shade and enjoy every rib there but you don't get the crowd experience.

I forgot these guys name. So sorry.

It's Labor Day 2010 Nugget Rib Cook Off. Head on up and eat some of the best ribs in the country. You'll won't find a bigger event in the Western United States. Hit me up on my email or text me and we'll hook up and talk BBQ. Contact info is above on the main banner. See you there.

Holidays are never complete without some BBQ ribs :)
Barbecue is an everyday event at my house. Its fun and doesn't heat up the house. Thanks for the comment.
